Mara Levy LaPorta, originally from Long Island, New York, relocated to Florida in 1995. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work, graduating summa cum laude, before attending Florida State University College of Law. While in law school, Mara interned with the Children’s Advocacy Clinic, where she developed a strong passion for children’s issues and the impact of the law on their lives. She graduated cum laude in 2002.

After being admitted to The Florida Bar, Mara began her legal career at a small family law firm in Tallahassee. In 2003, she moved to Sarasota and joined Burgess, Harrell, Colton & LaPorta, P.A. where she practiced for over two decades. Her work focuses primarily on family law matters, including time-sharing, child support, paternity, and the preparation of prenuptial agreements. She is also trained in collaborative law, reflecting her commitment to resolving disputes in a constructive and client-focused manner.

In 2025, after 22 years with her prior firm, Mara joined Schipani Law Group, continuing her dedication to family law.
